How to Create a Space for Your Television

So you have just splurged on a flat screen HDTV. With all the money you invested to own such an appliance, it only makes sense that you should plan carefully on where you are going to place it inside your home. Putting your television in an appropriate location will ensure that you get the most enjoyment from your TV viewing experience.

The first thing to do is to choose a room. The living room is usually a favourite spot for the television, but it can have certain disadvantages. Watching TV in an open area of the home can expose you to all sorts of distractions such as the noise of traffic from a nearby street or telemarketers constantly making your telephone ring. For a more immersive viewing experience, it is recommended that you use a more secluded area of the house. If you have a spare bedroom, you can transform it into a television room with a few simple redesigning tips.

For starters, re-paint the walls if necessary. The light from your TV screen (especially if it is large) will reflect on the walls and bounce back to your screen. To prevent wall colours from casting a tint over your TV picture, paint the walls in dark shades such as soft browns or greys. Carpeting the floor will also produce a wonderful effect on your room acoustics. The soft surface of the carpet absorbs sound and keeps it from bouncing all around the room. Finally, your chairs should be as comfortable as possible. Just throw in a big fluffy sofa with several throw pillows plus a table for your bowl of popcorn and you are ready to enjoy your television!
