The first and most important thing that you need to keep in mind when buying an HDTV is that it means the highest picture quality possible, which is five times better than ordinary digital televisions. Now, you are left with the question of whether you should get a plasma TV or an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) unit. The former has viewing angles of 170 degrees or better, which allows people to view it at virtually any angle. The latter is a good choice if you have limited space in your entertainment room.

The next step in your HDTV shopping is to check the resolution. Essentially, there are two types of scanning used as the indication of the unit's resolution, which are "i" or interlacing and "p" or progressive. Interlaced scanning captures an image and displays every other line from left to right and top to bottom. This was invented to save bandwidth. Progressive scanning, on the other hand, is the process done by displaying the images line by line. So, if you choose an HDTV with 1080p, it will have display the full picture at every frame, while 1080i will display half a picture every frame.
